March 16 : Music with John Fisher
John Fisher has been making music for more than half a century and along the way has collected a wealth of songs and stories that bring history to life and put life to song. His own songs have been recorded by James Durst (‘Not Another Gun’ on Element of Surprise) and Work o’ the Weavers (‘In Jerusalem’ on We’re Still Here). His voice and guitar appear on the 2008 Grammy-winning "Pete Seeger at 89." John has been performing with the Walkabout Clearwater Chorus since 1987.

Thank You for Christmas Gifts !
From Memorial's Outreach Journey Group: Thank you all for the generous response to the Outreach for Christmas gifts. The residents of Anchor House (Our residential drug rehab facility in Brooklyn) again this year received individual gift packages of toiletry items (50 men and 20 women) as has been our custom for many years. This year an added gift was the inclusion of a hand knitted scarf, provided by members and friends of MUMC. Richard Rice delivered these at the Christmas Eve day service there and reports how pleased the residents were -- they immediately tried them on! (Thanks to the knitters.) - Grace Church men's shelter also received approximately 40 gifts from our congregation of sweat shirts, tee shirts, socks, gloves, etc. Sister Alice has written a thank you note to us. - The Children's Home in Binghamton very much appreciated the $700 gift and will use it for the good work going on there. I do not have a report on the Christmas Tree sales at this point. Thank you to everyone who participated in one way or another. - Nancy Rice -
Keep Knitting
The scarves for Anchor House were a big hit and so we want YOU to keep right on knitting, and if you didn't knit (or crochet) in 2009, you can start right now. The scarves should be 6 to 10 inches wide and about 50 inches long -- we need 50 for men, 20 for women -- and need to be washable. Call Kathleen Cotter or Nancy Rice for info and look for notice of a time in the spring when we can all meet together. - Special thanks to the following for their contributions this year: Kathleen Cotter, Maryanne Wolf, Pat Hayes, Joan Morgan, Cynthia Plater, Phyllis Rodriguez and Nancy Rice. And, anyone else I may have missed. - Nancy Rice

Christmas 2009
Dear Sisters and Brothers of Memorial,
I recently heard a story, “The babies of Lincoln Hospital.” Some might call these “crack babies.” Their mothers left them because of their own addiction and many other reasons. Women from a nearby church learned of the children’s story. They took turns coming to the hospital to hold, rock and feed them. The women, as soon as they took a step toward the hospital were praying with their feet (and their arms), were beginning/continuing a life-long compassionate journey, were sharing the love they had received in their own lives and were Christ’s hands and feet. How beautiful!
Memorial offers all of us a chance to be Christ’s hands and feet this Christmas.

Darlene DiDomineck
Darlene DiDomineck, new to the White Plains community, will be serving as the Coordinator of Ministries for Memorial United Methodist Church. Her background is in faith based anti-poverty work, bridging the gap between communities of privilege and communities of the poor. Much of her work utilizes storytelling to build communities of solidarity. Darlene’s work is framed by the concept that storytelling is the root of justice making. She believes when we begin to tell our own stories and open ourselves to hearing the stories of another, change is possible. Hear about her experience in community building and share your own stories of struggle and change.
Tuesdays @ Dorry's gathers "conversation partners" weekly for informal table talk. There is no charge. Order food at 5:30 p.m., and then enjoy a stimulating program from 6-7 p.m.
Tuesdays @ Dorry's is coordinated by Dorry's friends at Memorial United Methodist Church, Congregation Kol Ami and the White Plains Times.
Memorial Needs Communications Volunteers
The position of Coordinator of Communications at Memorial, held by Lisa Hamm-Greenawalt for years, has been cut for budget reasons. We have also cut the monthly newsletter. Rob Pace, chair of the Memorial Experience Journey Group, is looking for volunteers to gather with him and Pastor Joe to brainstorm how we will do our communications ministry. A year ago we went to an all-volunteer children’s education ministry (over 30 volunteers), which is coordinated on a volunteer basis by Dana Jones. We hope to develop a similar model for communications. Can you write, take photos, contact media, make posters, edit, plan promotional campaigns, implement Internet strategies, etc? We need you. Send an email to Rob Pace if you can join with others to communicate the story of Memorial. We plan an Internet newsletter that also will be sent monthly, by US mail, to people who are not on the Internet.
Lisa has moved to Colorado (3109 Moonshadow Ln., Evergreen, CO 80439,
