Darlene DiDomineck
Darlene DiDomineck, new to the White Plains community, will be serving as the Coordinator of Ministries for Memorial United Methodist Church. Her background is in faith based anti-poverty work, bridging the gap between communities of privilege and communities of the poor. Much of her work utilizes storytelling to build communities of solidarity. Darlene’s work is framed by the concept that storytelling is the root of justice making. She believes when we begin to tell our own stories and open ourselves to hearing the stories of another, change is possible.  Hear about her experience in community building and share your own stories of struggle and change.

Tuesdays @
Dorry's gathers "conversation partners" weekly for informal table talk. There is no charge. Order food at 5:30 p.m., and then enjoy a stimulating program from 6-7 p.m.
Tuesdays @ Dorry's is coordinated by Dorry's friends at Memorial United Methodist Church, Congregation Kol Ami and the White Plains Times.

Picnic-Pentecost-Covenant
altNext Sunday@Memorial : May 31 -- Pentecost
10 a.m. -- Some food and singing for folks who come early
11 a.m. -- Joint Worship Service with Central Korean UMC
Noon -- Joint Picnic in the Courtyard --- games, food and youth auction for mission trip

Memorial and Central Korean UMCs will celebrate the 10th year of our covenant relationship on Sunday, May 31. We will worship together at 11 a.m. (please note this is later than usual for MUMC and earlier than usual for CK -- we will have a hymn sing at 10 a.m. for people who come early) and the picnic starts in the courtyard right after the service. Their will be the annual re-signing of our covenant during worship. The service will include a children's birthday cake processional celebrating Pentecost, the birthday of the church. There will be a written history of the shared ministries of our congregatons and the Prayer of Jesus will be heard in many languages. There will be communion and no sermon. Come to worship in picnic clothes.
The picnic will feature food, children's games, fellowship, volleyball (a game between CK and MUMC for the championship of the universe), a tug-of-war and lots of time for conversation in our beautiful courtyard. The main meal will be provided. Please bring side dishes and dessert dishes to be shared. MUMC youth will have a silent auction at the picnic with proceeds helping with the cost of the summer mission trip to Oklahoma.

Rainbow Vespers -- June 18
Memorial offers a Rainbow Vespers service on the third Thursday of each month. The next Rainbow Vespers is June 18.This service is designed as a welcoming "portal" for the LGBT persons and their friends and allies. Everyone in the congregation is invited. Bring family and friends. The leader of Rainbow Vespers is Rev. Sara Thompson Tweedy, a United Methodist pastor of the New York Annual Conference. The service starts at 6:30 p.m. and is completed by 7:30 p.m. so folks can attend the third-Thursday movies presented by the LOFT. Many MUMC people have been attending Rainbow Vespers and find the time spiritually centering and renewing. Rev. Thompson Tweedy is an insightful and creative preacher.
