Welcome the LOFT in Worship March 8
On the second Sunday of March during 10 a.m. worship, we will hold a celebration welcoming our new Bryant Avenue neighbor, The Loft.
The Loft, which serves the Lower Hudson LGBT community, joined us in late December. They said they decided to move here from their previous downtown location because the space works for them, they appreciate the large number of parking spots, but -- most importantly -- they consider Memorial an LGBT-friendly church, which is an ultimate compliment. They will use the "252" doors as their primary entrance.
The move makes it possible for the Loft in improve two of their services. They are installing a system to make it easier to borrow books, be alerted to new materials, and research the thousands of volumes of LGBT literature and film within the LOFT's library. The Loft's new CyberCenter, sponsored by the David Bohnett Foundation, will have up to six PC stations, allowing people to check email, work on resumes and apply for online jobs, research online, and have access to a number of programs. We'll also be offering classes to brush up on your computer skills.
MIND (Methodists in a New Direction) will join us at the March celebration. We have also invited New York's Pride in the Pulpit and other Lower Hudson LGBT organizations. Church Within a Church, a national United Methodist movement dedicated to BEing the inclusive church, will affirm our relationship with the Loft on the following Sunday, March 15.

Darlene DiDomineck
Darlene DiDomineck, new to the White Plains community, will be serving as the Coordinator of Ministries for Memorial United Methodist Church. Her background is in faith based anti-poverty work, bridging the gap between communities of privilege and communities of the poor. Much of her work utilizes storytelling to build communities of solidarity. Darlene’s work is framed by the concept that storytelling is the root of justice making. She believes when we begin to tell our own stories and open ourselves to hearing the stories of another, change is possible. Hear about her experience in community building and share your own stories of struggle and change.
Tuesdays @ Dorry's gathers "conversation partners" weekly for informal table talk. There is no charge. Order food at 5:30 p.m., and then enjoy a stimulating program from 6-7 p.m.
