Pastor's Paragraphs -- Joe Agne

This Sunday we focus in worship at 10 a.m. on the abundant life – what is it and why is it so elusive? The focus passage is Isaiah 55:1-9. The issue is appetite. Do we have appetites that can be satisfied and those that are never satisfied? Are there external forces that attempt to increase our appetites or even change them? The sermon title is “Abundant Life for All or No Abundance at All.” Can any of us claim abundance in our lives as long as there is anyone in the world without the basic necessities of life? Are the needs (as we understand them) of our lives such that everyone on earth could have the same needs and all of us could have these needs met and all of us could survive and thrive? These are some of the questions I am considering as I study a passage that begins:

Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you that have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread and your labor for that which
does not satisfy?

In addition to worship this weekend Memorial offers some opportunities for fun and study, in a 24 hour period.

Saturday night at Dorry’s – The Blues Mothers and Friends. This week they are joined by Laurie Siegel. It’s from 7—10, with the Blues Mothers going first. It looks like the place will be jammed (only 70 seats). Come early at 6:30 to get a seat and order your food.

Sunday at 8:30 a.m. – Mark Davies is preaching and communion is served at our early service, which is over by 9:15 p.m.

Sunday Noon, Baby Shower for Avelino Timothy Anthony Cangana in the Dr. King Fireside Library. Come and celebrate with parents, Linda Toh and Isaiah Cangana.

Sunday at 6 p.m. – Memorial 101. Join Darlene DiDomineck and me to learn about the United Methodist Church and Memorial UMC, in particular. A light meal will be served.

Below you will find more information about some of these occasions and others coming up at Memorial. Come to what you can. Memorial provides all of us with opportunities to get together for worship, study and fun. It’s great to be in community!

Peace, Salaam, Shalom,

Joe
